Mobile Enterprise

Mobile enterprise applications are changing businesses, across many verticals, from the inside-out by building wireless intelligence and capabilities into everyday devices. These applications, made possible by mobile broadband, are convergent and can make use of existing infrastructure, landlines and Wi-fi networks. They expand the reach of mobile from handsets to medical devices, vehicles, homes and basically anywhere that internet can reach. It may not be as sexy and visually exciting as mobile gaming and entertainment, but it makes money. Some of the most successful local companies in wireless operate in the mobile enterprise space. And who said making money was boring?

We have collected some of the money makers in the mobile enterprise space to tell about their products and show you what is coming in the near future. Following the presentations, an interactive panel of local industry experts will explore the potential that lies in going green. Join us for a great evening.

Hosted by Sierra Wireless | www.sierrawireless.com

Because two is always better than one - WINBC and New Media BC co-hosted events

We had extremely successful February and March MoMoVans held in partnership with New Media BC. We focused on WEB 2.0 and MOBILE GAMING and ENTERTAINMENT and for two oversold evenings we looked at some cool products and innovations and saw the depth of talent available in the region. It also brought the wireless and new media sectors together and rubbing shoulders and drinking beer was all it took to get ideas flowing and generate excitement about the possibilities for collaboration.

There were 14 presenters over the two evenings mixing everything from mobile games and apps, image and video creation, social media, web 2.0 development, sound, lights and everything in between. There is no shortage of creativity in this city and it was a great opportunity to get to see a little bit of what folks are up. Some highlights included:

Tangible Interaction Design | www.tangibleinteraction.com

Creators of full-on sensory experiences for huge events; picture helium filled orbs that respond to touch and that change colour or a huge photo/video collages streaming from users.

IUGO Mobile Entertainment | www.iugome.com

One of the early innovators in serial mobile gaming they develop games for next-generation mobile handsets. They are also some of the best hired guns in the business, working with major mobile and traditional game publishers on the likes of Tiger Woods 2006 & 2007 and Spiderman 2.

NowPublic | www.nowpublic.com

A participatory news network and one of the fastest growing news organizations with thousands of reporters in over 140 countries. During Hurricane Katrina, NowPublic had more reporters in the affected area than most news organizations have on their entire staff. In 2009, the site was nominated for an Emmy for Advanced Technology.
