Four smart, fast pitches

1st Pitch: Igor Kraychik, Co-founder and CEO of Collabrient Networks (http://collabrient.com), which develops SaaS software for smart mobile devices.

2nd Pitch: Mitch Cant, CTO of Imogo (http://imogo.com), a provider of unified messaging, exchange hosting, hosted desktop, data backup and VoIP services.

3rd Pitch: Amielle Lake, CEO of Tagga (http://tagga.com), a provider of text messaging services that let you carry on advertising, publishing and branding activities in the mobile world.

4th Pitch: Peter Armstrong, Founder and CEO of Ruboss Technology Corporation (http://ruboss.com), a startup focused on building apps using Adobe Flex and Ruby on Rails, the developer-friendly, open-source web framework.

Thanks, by the way, to Peter for agreeing to merge his Ruby on Rails Vancouver Community meeting with ours on this occasion. It freed up the facility for us and gives us all a chance to find out a little more about Ruby on Rails.

The Art of the Pitch

This is your opportunity to hear from Ron Klopfer – someone who has definitely mastered the art of the pitch. Ron's LinkedIn entry describes him as an experienced technology entrepreneur and manager, who has co-founded, financed and managed three successful technology startups over the past six years, two of which have been acquired by larger companies to generate 5x returns to seed-stage venture investors. Ron has also consulted to various technology companies on market strategy, sales, mergers and operations.

Ron specializes in technology industry market strategy, venture capital and fundraising, business development and sales operations, and is currently involved with such companies as MailChannels, creators of email traffic shaping software, and Firgelli Technologies, an early-stage startup engaged in commercializing patent-pending micro linear actuator technology for consumer robotics, mobile appliances and medical devices.

Panel on Entrepreneurship, Wireless Startups and New Media

We're going to cover a lot of ground in this panel, which could make an important contribution to the way your company organizes and promotes itself, and raises new capital.

Our panel of experts includes:

Igor Faletski - Co-Founder of Handi Mobility (http://www.handimobility.ca), the successful Vancouver startup that produced LiveVote and MyBus – two practical, interactive mobile services.

Danny Robinson - from Vancouver-based Bootup Labs (http://bootuplabs.com/). The company describes itself as a startup accelerator that helps founders and companies go "from zero to fundable."

Ron Klopfer – see "Art of the Pitch" above for his bio.

Panel on Mobile Voting

What could be more appropriate? Canada is facing a federal election, Vancouver will soon hold civic elections, and BC can expect provincial elections in 2009.

They are not in use yet for those types of voting, but secure mobile technologies exist which could transform the way we vote – making it easier and more convenient than ever to exercise our democratic rights.

This is your opportunity to hear from John Boxall of Handi Mobility and John Lyotier of Direct Voter on how these technologies are being deployed. Expect a lively discussion and by all means ask questions. During one of our breaks, we'll be voting on which of the four pitches we liked best.

While John Boxall was completing his B.Sc. in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University, he worked with Igor Faletski to launch MyBus, a mobile system for retrieving bus schedules. Encouraged by the success of MyBus and determined to further investigate how mobile technology could be applied to everyday problems, John co-founded Handi Mobility. Today, John is focused on bridging the gap between the desktop and mobile webs.

John Lyotier, the principal consultant for Launchpoint.ca, is an entrepreneur and a successful marketer with more than 10 years of experience in promoting, launching, designing, and jumpstarting new businesses and products through innovative marketing concepts. Most recently, John launched DirectVoter.com, to provide paid search marketing for election campaigns. John is also in the midst of a new mobile-centric venture -- Texts.com Launching in October 2008, Texts.com will be a new portal for international text messaging and SMS marketing services.
